Why travelers choose this itinerary
The seven churches of Revelation tell only part of Turkey’s Christian story. In Cappadocia, early believers carved churches and monasteries into the soft volcanic rock and painted them with frescoes, and in Istanbul, Hagia Sophia stood as the greatest church in Christendom for nearly a thousand years. This tour links all three in ten days.
Flights cover the long distances, so your days are spent at the sites, not on the road. Your guide reads each place through Scripture as well as history, and because the tour is private, your group can pause for readings, prayer or a service, and set its own pace.

Day-by-day itinerary
-
Day 1Arrive in Istanbul
A representative meets you at Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gökçen with a name sign and takes you by private transfer to your boutique hotel in Sultanahmet. The rest of the day is free. Your hotel is in the old city, close to tomorrow's sites, so an evening walk to the square between Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is an easy first outing. Send us your flight details when you book.
-
Day 2Istanbul: Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace
Your guide meets you at 9 a.m. for a full day on foot. Begin at the Hippodrome, heart of Byzantine Constantinople, then enter Hagia Sophia, consecrated as a church in 537 and still crowned by its great dome. Visit the Blue Mosque and its İznik tiles, then spend two hours in Topkapı Palace, where relics of the Ottoman court are kept. Finish in the covered lanes of the Grand Bazaar.
-
Day 3Fly to Cappadocia: Fairy Chimneys and Kaymaklı
A morning flight takes you to Cappadocia, where your guide meets you. Start at the Three Sisters, the famous trio of fairy chimneys near Ürgüp, and look over Pigeon Valley and its carved dovecotes. Then descend into Kaymaklı Underground City, a warren of tunnels, chapels and storerooms several floors deep, where Christians took refuge in times of danger. Check in to your cave hotel.
-
Day 4Göreme and the Rock Churches
If you booked the optional balloon flight, you rise before dawn to watch the valleys from the air. After breakfast, walk through Devrent Valley and the fairy chimneys of Paşabağ, where hermits once lived in the rock. Stop in Avanos for lunch and its pottery workshops, then visit the Göreme Open Air Museum, a monastic settlement whose churches are painted with scenes from the Gospels. End at Uçhisar Castle for the view.
-
Day 5Fly to İzmir (Smyrna)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight west to İzmir on the Aegean coast. You are met on arrival and taken to your hotel in the city center. İzmir is ancient Smyrna, one of only two churches in Revelation that receive no rebuke, and the city where Bishop Polycarp was martyred. The rest of the day is free to rest or walk along the bay.
-
Day 6Pergamum, Thyatira and Smyrna
Drive north to Pergamum, the church that lived "where Satan's throne is." Climb the acropolis to the foundations of the Altar of Zeus and one of the steepest theaters of the ancient world, then visit the Asclepion, a famous healing center of the Roman era. Continue to Thyatira, today's Akhisar, the city of Lydia the purple-seller. Back in İzmir, a drive through the city center around the Clock Tower shows you modern Smyrna.
-
Day 7Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea and Pamukkale
An early start for the longest road day. At Sardis, once the capital of Lydia, see the restored gymnasium and a large ancient synagogue. In Alaşehir, ancient Philadelphia, the only other church Revelation does not rebuke, stand among the pillars of a Byzantine basilica. At Laodicea, your guide explains John's warning to the lukewarm church. End at Hierapolis and the white terraces of Pamukkale, with dinner at your thermal hotel.
-
Day 8Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary
Drive about two and a half hours to Ephesus, the first of the seven churches and the city where Paul taught for more than two years. Walk its marble streets past the Library of Celsus and the Great Theater of Acts 19. Visit the House of the Virgin Mary in the hills, the Basilica of St. John, built over the apostle's traditional tomb, and the site of the Temple of Artemis. Dinner is at your hotel in Kuşadası.
-
Day 9Fly to Istanbul
After breakfast, your driver takes you to İzmir airport for the flight back to Istanbul. You are met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in Sultanahmet. The afternoon is free to explore on your own: the Basilica Cistern, the Spice Bazaar or a Bosphorus ferry are all close by. We can also arrange an extra guided afternoon if you prefer.
-
Day 10Departure
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to the airport in time for your international flight home. If your flight leaves later in the day, you may have a little time for a final walk in the old city. Let us know your flight time in advance so we can plan the transfer with a comfortable margin.

FAQ
Does this tour visit all seven churches of Revelation?
Yes: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Smyrna is modern İzmir, where you stay two nights and take a drive through the center. At most sites you see the ancient city and later church ruins rather than a first-century building.
Why include Cappadocia on a Seven Churches tour?
Cappadocia holds hundreds of rock-cut churches and monasteries from the Byzantine centuries, many with frescoes of Gospel scenes, and underground cities where Christian communities sheltered. It shows how the faith took root in Anatolia after the apostolic age, which makes it a natural companion to the seven churches.
Is the guide familiar with the Bible?
Yes. Your guide specializes in biblical and early Christian history and connects each site to Revelation, Acts and Paul's letters. Questions, readings and prayer at the sites are welcome, and the private format means your group decides how long to stay.
Are flights and entrance fees included?
Yes. Three domestic flights are included, along with all airport transfers. Entrance fees for every site in the itinerary are included too, and your guide buys the tickets in advance so you skip the lines. International flights to and from Istanbul are not included.
Is this tour private?
Yes. Only your party travels, with a private guide and vehicle on the dates you choose, which suits church groups and families. Prices are per person and decrease as your party grows, and children 0 to 1 travel free.
How much does this tour cost per person?
For two travelers the price is $2,435 per person in US dollars. It falls to $1,860 per person for a party of six or more, and a solo traveler pays $4,675 because the guide and vehicle are reserved for one party. These are 2026 prices and cover everything listed under What's included.
What do children pay, and can we upgrade to 5-star hotels?
Children up to 1 year old travel free. Children aged 2 to 6 pay $1,145 and count toward the group size. Upgrading every night of the tour to 5-star hotels costs $505 per adult.
How do payment and cancellation work?
You reserve with a 30% deposit by card in US dollars, processed securely by Stripe; for two travelers on this tour that is about $1,460. The balance is charged automatically 30 days before travel. Cancel up to 30 days before your start date and you get a full refund, including the deposit.
