Why travelers choose this itinerary
The seven churches of Revelation 2 and 3 are spread across western Turkey, and they are hard to visit on your own: the sites are far apart, poorly signposted and easy to misread without context. This tour links all seven cities in four days of travel, with a guide who reads the ruins through both archaeology and Scripture.
Because the tour is private, your party sets the rhythm. Spend longer at Laodicea, pause for prayer or a reading at each site, or plan your Ephesus day around a Sunday service at the House of the Virgin Mary. Pamukkale and the Temple of Artemis come along the way at no extra effort.
Highlights
- All seven cities of Revelation: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea

- The restored synagogue and gymnasium at Sardis
- Laodicea, the "lukewarm" church, and its ancient water system
- The white travertines of Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis
- Ephesus, the Basilica of St. John and the House of the Virgin Mary
- A guide who connects each site to the letters in Revelation
Day-by-day itinerary
-
Day 1Arrive in İzmir (Smyrna)
Your driver meets you at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport with a name sign and takes you to your hotel in the city center. Modern İzmir stands on ancient Smyrna, the church that Revelation praises for staying faithful under persecution, and the city where Bishop Polycarp was martyred. The rest of the day is free to rest or walk along the seafront promenade. Send us your flight details when you book.
-
Day 2Pergamum and Thyatira
Drive north to Pergamum, called in Revelation the place "where Satan's throne is." Climb through the acropolis to the foundations of the Altar of Zeus, the Temple of Trajan and one of the steepest theaters of the ancient world, and visit the Asclepion, a healing center of the Roman era. In the afternoon, stop in Akhisar at the excavated remains of Thyatira, home of the church warned about Jezebel, then return to İzmir.
-
Day 3Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea and Hierapolis
A long day east through the Hermus valley. At Sardis, capital of the Lydian kingdom, see the restored marble court of the gymnasium and one of the largest ancient synagogues ever found. In Alaşehir, ancient Philadelphia, stand among the massive pillars of a Byzantine basilica. At Laodicea, your guide explains the warning to the "lukewarm" church. End at Hierapolis and the white terraces of Pamukkale, where you spend the night.
-
Day 4Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary
Drive west to Ephesus, the first church addressed in Revelation and the city where Paul preached for more than two years. Walk its marble streets past the Great Theater, scene of the silversmiths' riot in Acts 19, and the Library of Celsus. Visit the House of the Virgin Mary, the Basilica of St. John on the hill where the apostle is said to be buried, and the site of the Temple of Artemis, then continue to Kuşadası.
-

FAQ
Does this tour visit all seven churches of Revelation?
Yes, all seven cities: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Smyrna lies under modern İzmir, where you stay for two nights. At most sites you see the ancient city around the church rather than a standing first-century church building.
Is the guide familiar with the Bible?
Yes. Your guide is a licensed Turkish guide who specializes in biblical and early Christian history. Expect readings and context from Revelation, Acts and Paul's letters alongside the archaeology, and room for your own questions, prayers or readings at each site.
Is this tour private?
Yes. Only your party travels, with a private guide and an air-conditioned vehicle reserved for you, on the dates you choose. That makes it a good fit for church groups and families. Prices are per person and decrease as your party grows, and children 0 to 1 travel free.
Are entrance fees and meals included?
All entrance fees are included, and your guide buys the tickets in advance so you skip the ticket lines. Breakfast is included every day, plus dinner at your hotels in Pamukkale and Kuşadası. Lunches and other dinners are paid locally, at restaurants your guide recommends.
Can we attend a church service during the tour?
Often, yes. Mass is held regularly at the House of the Virgin Mary near Ephesus. If your dates include a Sunday, tell us when you book and we will try to arrange the Ephesus day so you can attend a service.
How much does this tour cost per person?
For two travelers the price is $1,175 per person in US dollars. It falls to $860 per person for a party of six or more, and a solo traveler pays $2,245 because the guide and vehicle are reserved for one party. These are 2026 prices and cover everything listed under What's included.
What do children pay, and can we upgrade to 5-star hotels?
Children up to 1 year old travel free. Children aged 2 to 6 pay $290 and count toward the group size. Upgrading every night of the tour to 5-star hotels costs $225 per adult.
How do payment and cancellation work?
You reserve with a 30% deposit by card in US dollars, processed securely by Stripe; for two travelers on this tour that is about $710. The balance is charged automatically 30 days before travel. Cancel up to 30 days before your start date and you get a full refund, including the deposit.
