Why travelers choose this itinerary
Many visitors reach Istanbul first and only then realize the seven churches lie 600 km away on the Aegean side of Turkey. This tour solves that in one booking: a transfer from your hotel, a one-hour flight to İzmir, four days on the road with your own guide and driver, and a flight back to Istanbul that ends at your hotel door.
The guide reads each site through Scripture as well as archaeology, from the letters in Revelation 2 and 3 to Paul’s years in Ephesus. Because only your party travels, you can stop for a reading or prayer at each church, and plan the Ephesus day around a service at the House of the Virgin Mary.
Highlights
- All seven churches of Revelation in four days
- Return flights between Istanbul and İzmir, with transfers from your hotel
- The acropolis and Asclepion of Pergamum
- Sardis, with its great gymnasium and ancient synagogue
- Laodicea, the church John called lukewarm
- A night at a thermal hotel in Pamukkale
- Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St. John
Day-by-day itinerary
-
Day 1Istanbul to İzmir (Smyrna)
Your driver collects you from your hotel in Istanbul, on either the European or Asian side, and takes you to the airport for the short flight to İzmir. You are met on arrival and driven to your hotel in the city center. İzmir is ancient Smyrna, one of only two churches in Revelation that receive no rebuke, and the city of the martyr Polycarp. The evening is free for a walk along the bay.
-
Day 2Pergamum and Thyatira
Head north to Pergamum, the church that lived "where Satan's throne is." Your guide leads you up the acropolis to the foundations of the Altar of Zeus, the Temple of Trajan and a theater cut steeply into the hillside, then down to the Asclepion, where the sick once came for healing. In the afternoon, visit the remains of Thyatira in the town of Akhisar, the church of Lydia's home city, before returning to İzmir.
-
Day 3Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea and Pamukkale
The longest day of the trip, through the fertile Hermus valley. Sardis, once the capital of King Croesus, shows a grand gymnasium and one of the largest synagogues of the ancient world. In Alaşehir, ancient Philadelphia, stand among the tall brick pillars of an early basilica. At Laodicea, your guide explains why its water and wealth shaped John's message. Finish at Pamukkale's white terraces and spend the night at a thermal hotel.
-
Day 4Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary
Drive west to Ephesus, the church praised for its hard work and warned for losing its first love. Walk down its marble main street to the Library of Celsus and the Great Theater, where the silversmiths rioted against Paul. Visit the stone House of the Virgin Mary in the hills, the Basilica of St. John in Selçuk, built over the apostle's traditional tomb, and the lonely column of the Temple of Artemis. Continue to Kuşadası on the coast.
-
Day 5Kuşadası to Istanbul
Enjoy a quiet morning by the sea in Kuşadası, with time for a walk through the seafront park. Your driver then takes you to İzmir airport for your flight back to Istanbul, where you are met and transferred to your hotel. If you want to see more of Istanbul, we can arrange hotel nights and a private city tour around this trip. Let us know your plans when you book.

FAQ
How is this different from the Seven Churches tour from İzmir?
The route on the ground is the same. This version starts and ends at your Istanbul hotel and includes return flights between Istanbul and İzmir plus all transfers. Choose it if you are staying in Istanbul; choose the İzmir version if you fly directly into İzmir.
Does the tour visit all seven churches?
Yes: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. Smyrna is modern İzmir, where you spend two nights. At most sites you walk through the ancient city and later church ruins, rather than a first-century church building.
Are the flights included?
Yes. Return economy flights between Istanbul and İzmir are included, with a 15 kg checked bag and 8 kg carry-on each. Private transfers from your Istanbul hotel to the airport on Day 1, and back to your hotel on Day 5, are included too.
Is this tour private?
Yes. Only your party travels, with a private guide and vehicle on the dates you choose, which suits church groups and families. Prices are per person and fall as your party grows, and children 0 to 1 travel free.
Which meals are included?
Breakfast every day, and dinner at the hotels in Pamukkale and Kuşadası. Lunches are not included, so you can eat at the local restaurants your guide recommends along the route. Vegetarian options are available on request.
How much does this tour cost per person?
For two travelers the price is $1,385 per person in US dollars. It falls to $1,050 per person for a party of six or more, and a solo traveler pays $2,575 because the guide and vehicle are reserved for one party. These are 2026 prices and cover everything listed under What's included.
What do children pay, and can we upgrade to 5-star hotels?
Children up to 1 year old travel free. Children aged 2 to 6 pay $335 and count toward the group size. Upgrading every night of the tour to 5-star hotels costs $225 per adult.
How do payment and cancellation work?
You reserve with a 30% deposit by card in US dollars, processed securely by Stripe; for two travelers on this tour that is about $830. The balance is charged automatically 30 days before travel. Cancel up to 30 days before your start date and you get a full refund, including the deposit.
